Letters to Juliet

I am a hard romantic & every flick that comes under the ‘romantic’ umbrella is always on my watch list.

Innocent romantic stories take you to the fairyland. It may or may not be a lot like real life but they are beautiful and somehow makes me think of my life in that frame.

‘Letters to Juliet’ therefore ranks high in my ‘let’s watch it once again list’. Sophie a fact checker engaged to a chef feels that life is meant to be the way it is. Every now and then she would manage to convince herself that life is good. Sophie wants to be a writer but never really got the opportunity to get published and so she continues as a fact checker until her pre wedding trip is finalized with her chef fiance, Victor.

Victor & Sophie travel to Verona for a vacation that was supposed to be a spend more time together trip. But plans don’t always work as we think them to. Victor gets busy with exploring the food there, the exclusives for the restaurant he aims to launch. This is where Sophie decides to go around and explore to city on her own. Here the vacation becomes more of a sole vacation than a couple holiday.

Being on her own gave Sophie more happiness & relief than what she thought. While looking around she saw the spot where she saw bunch of women writing something with varied expressions on their faces. Late in the evening, this pretty woman comes there, collects all the letters in a basket, the ones that were left behind by those women. Sophie followed her and reached the house where she met the dream she had, the dream to write. She met the secretaries of Juliet, who answer the letters received from women addressed to Juliet.

During one of these replying to letters session, Sophie found a letter from Claire from 1957 who talked about her love for Lorenzo. Sophie replies to it and soon Claire comes to visit her with her grandson Charlie. Sophie assures Claire that she will find her long-lost love, Lorenzo and Charlie ridicules this idea considering it to be pointless but sticks around to take care of Claire. So as to say Charlie & Sophie were not really fond of each other.

It is during this journey of finding Claire’s Lorenzo that Sophie realize how different her life can be. She keeps penning down the entire experience to make this her first published book. As the search intensifies, Sophie & Charlie develop and unsaid soft corner for each other but no one initiates it. In no after that they found the real Lorenzo that Claire has been talking about. The sweetness in the love of the old couple is heart warming and soon they declare to get married.

Sophie leaves post that for she has to meet Victor with whom she apparently came for a pre wedding vacation. On returning to New York, Sophie calls off her engagement with Victor because she realizes that she deserves better. And soon she returns to Verona for Claire’s and Lorenzo’s wedding. She reaches there with the hope of meeting Charlie and confessing what she feels for him. But instead sees him with other girl Patricia who she assumes to be his girl. Charlie is more than pleased to see Sophie for the feeling was mutual. Sophie runs from there and Charlie follows her where he clears her doubt and tells her that he loves her (the total aww.. moment that was).

And here you have read the movie. Don’t worry reading this won’t spoil the fun of watching the movie. Go ahead, watch it!
